If you are building a new home or renovating an existing one, make sure that your air conditioning system will cool the new space. Heat pumps, ductless zoned systems and geothermal units offer energy-efficient, quiet cooling for hot, humid coastal environments like that of Corpus Christi.
New HVAC Installation
Most homeowners select ducted split systems for new HVAC installations. An outdoor component houses the compressor and an indoor component houses the evaporator. If space is a problem, package units combine components within one cabinet. For those who live near the seacoast, Carrier offers a split system with a heat pump option to withstand the corrosive effects of salt air.
Heat Pump Installation
For areas with mild winters, heat pumps are usually sufficient for heating and cooling and can be incorporated into a ducted system. Instead of using fuel to heat or cool air, heat pumps move hot air outside during the summer and to the inside in winter. Heat pumps deliver more consistent temperatures and better humidity control at lower costs.
Geothermal units use the consistent temperature of the earth as the energy source. Coils are placed in the earth or a nearby water source to collect and disperse heat. Geothermal units can save up to 60 percent on heating and cooling bills. Some units qualify for a 30 percent federal tax credit through 2016.
Ductless Mini-Split Installation
Sometimes it’s difficult to connect renovations to an existing ducted system or to add ducts to an older home. In these situations, ductless mini-split units are ideal. Some cool up to eight rooms on one compressor with individual climate control for each room. Ductless units are available with heat pumps that heat and cool or as standard air conditioners.
