Air purifiers, humidifiers, UV Lamps–you’ve heard and seen it all in your quest to make your home in Corpus Christi, Texas, a haven of healthy air and comfort. But maybe it’s time to pursue a more natural solution. By absorbing hazardous toxins from the air, certain plants act as natural filters that leave your air healthy and sufficiently humid. Here are four plants that are great for your indoor air quality.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is good for much more than treating sunburns. For those who may be novice plant caretakers, aloe vera plants are easy to grow and difficult to kill. They principally remove benzene from your air, which is common in paint and many chemical cleaners.

Peace Lily

The peace lily not only adds a splash of beautiful color to your home, but it can also improve your indoor air quality by 60 percent. The peace lily draws in mold spores and uses them as food, so they are especially useful in damp, warm areas of the home, such as the bathroom. They also absorb harmful particles from alcohol and acetone.

Snake Plant

Snake plants, which are popular for adding a little pizzazz to a room, clear the air of formaldehyde, which is common in toilet paper, cleaning products, and personal care products. Placing a snake plant in your bathroom will do wonders for the indoor air quality.

Some homeowners also place snake plants in their bedrooms, because these plants also absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen at night, which is the opposite process of most plants. Thus, you can get an oxygen-enriched sleep from your snake plant.

Chrysanthemum

For another splash of color and an extra hand removing benzene from your air, put a chrysanthemum in the corner. It will remove toxins found in paints, glues, plastics, and detergent. Just be sure to give this plant plenty of sunlight.
